Post Weekends

After reading a few chapters of Ecclesiastes a while back, I had some thoughts especially from chapter 2. Here was what I jotted down..

"Chasing after the world's goodness means nothing. Even after the author of this book has done everything that is 'good' in the eyes of the world, his soul and meaning in life was nothing short of futile. here, we see a man, chasing after the things of this world as an experiment(?) to see if it brouhgt him satisfaction. And after everything that he had done, chasing after riches, partying, gaining wisdom, accumulating wealth, having women, slaves, etc., he still found that life was meaningless. What puzzles me is the fact that we have an account of the lived experience of this guy but we fail to heed his advice. Why does our human nature still crave for this 'goodness' when we already know the consequences? Why do we feel the need to gain material wealth solely for oursleves? However, the chapter wasn't left hanging, thank God! We are told that we should find joy in God because nothing can be done without God being our joy.
Question: In the last few verses, it says "To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind." What does God mean by this? It cannot be that Christians aren't suppose to be rich right? Then what about the very last sentence? So which is meaningless? Gaining wealth or?"

Ecclesiastes has a way of making one think.

Heh. Babysat Zeph yesterday with Clarissa:D I'm amazed that Mark and Sue trusted us with him when we didn't have that much experience with babies but I must say, it was a really good experience. Not easy definitely. Especially when he was crying for no reason. It was tiring! New found respect for all parents out there. Babysitting for 4 hours was enough to tire me out. I must give it to all parents who do this 24/7. What's more, Zeph was being an easy baby yesterday. I know I was a difficult baby. Refused to stop crying and cannot be left on the bed when I sleep. So my mom had to carry me almost all the time. And she told me I'll cry till my face turned red. Oh boy. My mom's a real supermom!(:

I think I'm going to watch Resident Evil tonight if plans go accordingly. It's gonna be a packed week ahead. Did I mention I love weekends? :D

hey you! Thanks(:
